Local Emergency Services

Nevada County Office of Emergency Services (OES) works to mitigate, prepare, respond, and assist with recovery from disasters and emergencies.  Examples of these include:  mitigation – fire plan measures; preparation – evacuation exercise; response – emergency operations center; recovery – FEMA interface. OES currently has access to Federal Grant funds to assist local communities to create Emergency Preparedness Guides (EPG).  An EPG contains such things as a local area map, evacuation checklists, emergency notifications systems, and items specific to your community. An EPG is created by local community members/representatives with assistance from local public safety agencies. Funds are limited and higher priority may be given to communities located in areas with a higher threat of an emergency/disaster affecting them.  For copies of EPGs that have been published utilizing federal grant funds, go to the Public Safety Document section at  Office of Emergency Services Website

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) – Locally over 200 people have been trained to help their communities in a disaster or emergency.  CERT training includes disaster medical, light search and rescue, and small fire suppression skills.  If you would like to be trained to be a Disaster Service Worker, please contact the County Health Department at (530) 265-7174.

EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

Your Cell Phone Number and Email Address can now be added to the County Emergency Notification System - Sign Up Now!

The Nevada County Office of Emergency Services (OES) is offering additional ways for residents of Nevada County (both incorporated and un-incorporated areas) to be notified of emergencies such as wildfires threatening your neighborhood.

If you have a residential or business phone number utilizing AT&T or a local cable company, your phone number is already accessible as part of the public safety data base. If you desire to be notified via your residential or business phone only, no action is required on your part.

In order to be notified by the county’s Emergency Notification System via your cell phone, Voice over IP (VoIP), cell phone text messaging, or personal email, residents of Nevada County will need to manually add their information. To assure your additional contact information is included, go to our website: http://www.mynevadacounty.com/nc/igs/oes/Pages/Home.aspx and look for the Emergency Notification System link.

The emergency notification system will only be activated by County public safety personnel and if you desire to add your cell phone and email address, this information will only be accessed when sending emergency messages.

Examples of when the emergency notification system may be used are:

  • Evacuation Orders
  • Natural Disaster Warnings
  • Safety Alerts
  • Missing Person
