The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County is a non-profit organization with a mission to make our community safe from wildfire. We provide direct landowner education and assistance programs. Programs include a drive-by chipping service, free defensible space clearing for low-income seniors and the disabled, the Scotch Broom Challenge, children’s education, the annual Prepare for Fire Season newspaper guide, and a one on one advisory visit to evaluate your defensible space at your home. We rely on people willing to volunteer, grant funding, and private contributions to sustain our operations. We have been in operation for 33 years and are considered a leader in innovative programs for fire safe activities in California. Please consider joining the council as a member to continue the effort to make all of Nevada County fire safe!
Sustaining Membership $49: Our most popular membership option entitles you to priority scheduling of our chipping services, as well as a window decal, and member discounts on special Firewise equipment and FSCNC events.
Chipping service is suggested at $75 per hour and is separate from the membership program.
Association Membership $99: An Association Membership is for a group of people along a private road, who want to get together and clear the road for safer evacuation and then have their piles chipped shortly after completing the work. This membership gives your association a chipping consultant who will cover topics such as county fire road standards, defensible space along the road, and how to properly place your chipping piles. Association members will receive scheduled service to chip piles after their designated work day (weather, equipment & schedule permitting) within the next week. Association members are also eligible to borrow available safety signs, cones, vests & safety supplies from the FSCNC to use while clearing the defensible space along the roadway.
